Born in London , he survived the Blitz, the children’s evacuation to Scotland, a move to Ireland and emigration to the United States. After entering the NYC Public school system , he developed his natural talent for watercolors at the High School of Music and Art. then studied architecture at Pratt Institute and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Peter established his own firm, PMG Architects, in 1991. PMGA specialized in luxury residential and hospitality projects, both for new construction and renovations. He has completed projects in New York, Chicago, Miami Beach, Carmel, California and London, England. His work has won numerous national and local design awards.
Throughout his career, his love of watercolors persisted. During the last few years, Mr. Gumpel has been able to focus his time in the pursuit of art. He has produced an impressive body of work including seascapes, travel images, landscapes, portraits and botanical images. His work has been shown in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami and at numerous exhibits on the east end of Long Island. He was the President of the Artist Alliance of East Hampton and was the Vice Chairman of the Architectural Review Board of East Hampton.
Mr. Gumpel is a full time resident of East Hampton. He often collaborates with his wife, Marcia Previti, on the construction of garden sculptures.
